(Cruise ship wedding) The Twilight Saga Ain’t The Best Vampire Movie Ever.
No commentsBy The Vampyre
I am surprised to find that many people have agreed to consider Twilight as the greatest vampire film ever made. I’ve never understood why.
Above all I’d like to claim that, The Twilight Saga is more of a romantic movie than a vampire story. It is an old concept to use romance in a vampire film, but in Twilight the feelings has become the primary theme and supersedes the traditional theme of the vampire film. It’s a bad candidate to be named the greatest vampire film ever. The amazingly popupar story is about a vampire losing his heart to a human girl and standing up against his own race to protect her. There’s clearly said — both in the story and in the movie - that Twilight Saga actually is a love story. Instead of the vampire characters there could be any other kind. The vampires are simply a nice illustration how to make some people looking different from the others.
And more importantly, when we sit to watch a vampire movie, we would expect to see some horrifying and shocking scenes, something so scary that we’ll forget about the popcorn and barely can avoid screeming (maybe even not). I hereby say that Twilight has not given me such a feeling. The first Dracula for example, the known to all horror movie from 1931 about the legendary vampire, it still makes me shiver to watch it for the 10-th time. But Twilight - it is just a love story with some vampire characters. I wondner can anybody after seeing it even think of it as of a horror movie?
Many fans of Twilight will not agree with the next statement, but I’m also saying that Twilight Saga is more of a teenage story. I ain’t saying that it’s not convinient for persons of all ages (persons from all age groups can definitely find lots of amusing from the story for themselves), but the storyline, casting and lots of other factors are meant for attracting the young generation. It is well known that the book was a bestseller among the young people and they are the prime viewers of the film version that the producers are targeting. A classical horror movie shouldn’t have these limitations, furthermore would be forbidden from the younger public because of the cruelty and violence.
I am not saying that The Twilight Saga is not a great movie. It certainly is a good entertainment and has a touching storyline. Everything I’m wishing to clarify is that I do not agree with the idea of The Twilight Saga being the greatest vampire movie ever. Rather, it’s more of a romantic story. I would surely recommend to see some classical movies to agree that the classic vampire movies have a bit different plot. You must certainly watch the Dracula movies from years 1931, 1958 and 1992, Black Sunday (1960), The Night Stalker (1972), Underworld and Blade Trilogies etc to find out what a true vampire film has to offer! Vampire films are amazing! And there’s been a lot of smashing films made starting from 1922 (when Nosferatu came out) that can give a suberb and terrifying film experience!
