Choosing effective work gloves and assembly line work gloves can sometimes be a case of choosing between preferences, and ending up with a compromise which does little to address the needs. There are several important factors between which it can often feel as though you are forced to choose, including dexterity, fit, grip, resistance to oils or other liquids, and puncture or cut resistance.
In order to choose the most suitable work gloves the usual way is to weigh up the relative risks of the task, and then purchase a pair of work gloves which most closely matches those requirements. However, more often than not this will result in a compromise that can leave other aspects wanting.
For example, assembly line work often requires a great deal of dexterity, and a certain amount of grip. In many cases puncture resistance is less needed, and only in some cases is there a need to resist oils or liquids. The most important aspects here are usually fit, comfort and dexterity, as well as effective gripping. For comfort and fit, nylon gloves often provide the very best levels, especially over the longer periods of time. However, nylon may be comfortable but offers almost no grip ability.
This then tends to leave rubber gloves as the alternative. Certainly rubber work gloves do provide tremendously good gripping, but because of the way they are manufactured the fit tends to be much less precise, sagging across some parts of the hand and stretching tightly across others. Dexterity and comfort are immediately sacrificed.
So what is the answer? In order to balance dexterity and comfort with grip and control, the best solution is to use nitrile rubber coated nylon work gloves, thereby providing the best of both. Nitrile rubber gloves have long proved popular within many industries and workplaces because of nitrile rubber’s ability to resist oils and liquids, as well as offering a high level of puncture resistance and cut resistance.
However, in order for nitrile rubber to provide adequate protection it often has to be made quite a bit thicker, but this very quickly reduces dexterity. The dilemma is that thick nitrile rubber work gloves may offer a good deal of protection, and are ideal for jobs such as gardening or heavy, gross manual work, but for assembly line work or tasks which require a greater degree of dexterity, the nitrile rubber has to be made very much thinner. This leads to a compromise in terms of protection, and so having to choose between dexterity and protection is again a matter of choosing a compromise which may not be ideal.
But by taking nylon gloves which have been anatomically formed to provide a perfect fit and coating them with a thin layer of nitrile rubber, compromise is no longer an issue. The nylon gloves provide a breathable, comfortable fit, allowing for a high level of dexterity. At the same time, the nitrile rubber can be applied in only a thin coating, reducing any undesirable reduction in dexterity and flexibility yet still achieving a sound level of protection against oils and liquids, as well as providing excellent grip.
Nitrile rubber gloves naturally repel oils and liquids, which is why they are so often used in assembly line work and workshops where oil and grease are frequently involved. But where oil and grease may be present, traditional thick nitrile rubber gloves can reduce dexterity to the point where workers become clumsy, the work rate is slowed, and there is even a higher risk of accident.
The solution in many of these cases may well be to consider the benefits of nitrile coated nylon work gloves, since the combination of nylon and nitrile rubber means that the nitrile can be applied in a thinner coat, providing the same level of resistance to oil and grease, as well as a high level of grip, without reducing the dexterity. The nylon provides a better anatomical fit, as well as a more comfortable glove.
When looking for work gloves, it’s important not to choose compromise, since such a choice will necessarily always entail a loss of either protection, comfort, dexterity or grip. Nitrile rubber gloves may offer resistance and grip, and nylon work gloves offer comfort and dexterity. The combination offers the best of both, without the compromise.
